Pelicans on Parade

Graphic: Pelicans on Parade logo.

POP! is a unique art fundraiser in Klamath Falls, Oregon - featuring 7-foot-high, flying pelicans originally sculpted by Stefan Savides of Avian Design, and creatively embellished by Klamath Basin artists. The impressive artwork on the first batch of ten pelicans completed for the 2005 Centennial Celebrations, has aroused continuing interest in painting the pelicans, with five added in 2006, and more in progress!

POP! is now proudly supported by the Oregon Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The artists have astonished everyone by the ingeniousness of their designs. One pelican is covered in a stunning mosaic of colored glass; two are "living pelicans" with live plants; one has been transformed into a fighter jet; one is a high school graduate; others are a marvel of paintings - from mountains to waterfalls, birds in flight to wildlife portraits, and magical landscape scenes.

When the pelicans are auctioned, proceeds will be used by Klamath Wingwatchers for educational projects, including those in partnership with community nonprofits and art groups that promote birding and appreciation of natural resources in the Upper Klamath Basin. Major support will focus on the Winter Wings Festival, the Klamath Basin Birding Trail, and the new Klamath Outdoor Science School for students and teachers.
