Location:

About 20 miles west of Diamond Lake Junction, Oregon (about 10 miles south of Chemult on Highway 97)

Habitat:

This area provides birding opportunities for diving waterbirds and birds that are typical of high elevation forest, riparian and meadow habitats. An 11-mile paved bicycle trail surrounds the lake providing a good birding route with access to a variety of high elevation habitats.

Birds to Look For:

Three merganser species (Common, Red-breasted and Hooded), both goldeneyes (Common and Barrow's) and other diving ducks. Western, Clark's and Eared Grebes, Belted Kingfisher, Three-toed Woodpecker, Williamson's Sapsucker, Gray Jays, Steller's Jay, Hermit and MacGillivray's Warblers, Mountain and Chestnut-backed Chickadees.

Directions:

From Klamath Falls take Hwy 97 N to Diamond Lake Junction. Turn L on Hwy 138 for 17 mi to the W and then about 3 mi N on FS 4795 to recreation sites, campground and Diamond Lake Resort. This area is about 7 mi N of the North entrance to Crater Lake National Park. GPS: 122° 8' 4.26" W, 43° 10' 46.49"N.
