About 50 miles southeast of Klamath Falls, Oregon
This large open lake is surrounded by sagebrush intermixed with grasslands and scattered juniper.
The Refuge and surrounding areas are populated by sagebrush-adapted species. Small islands in the lake support nesting colonies of American White Pelican, Double-crested Cormorant, gulls and terns. The Refuge is not open to public entry but wildlife are visible from the road along the south edge of the Refuge. During wet spring periods an impressive array of wildflowers may be found in the vicinity of Clear Lake Refuge.
American White Pelican. Caspian, Forster's and Black Terns, Common Nighthawk, Gray Flycatcher, Ash-throated Flycatcher, Loggerhead Shrike, Horned Lark, Oak/Juniper Titmouse, Mountain Bluebird, Rock Wren, Sage Thrasher, Brewer's Sparrow, Sage Sparrow, Lark Sparrow. Mammals: Pronghorn Antelope and Mule Deer.
From Klamath Falls take Highway 39/139 southeast approximately 40 miles then take Forest Service Road 136 approximately 10 east miles to the Refuge. GPS: 121° 10' 11.70" W, 41° 48' 1.59" N.
